I can’t say right now, but this staff wants to put a title contender on the floor. Edit: I think it will be a top 15 team at minimum. Do you foresee us picking up a legit PG in the portal? I don’t like the idea of ZZ being the only one on the roster. And I doubt any true freshman will be ready anyway. So I hope we’re going after a good PG, hopefully young enough that coming in behind ZZ won’t turn him away. PG is definitely on the list, but a jumbo wing is the priority. They absolutely need a 6‘6-6‘9 guy that is versatile.

1. People who would post on a player's social media page or comment on their posts just to drag them publicly are just awful people who should be shunned. 2. If I was a professional athlete (and anyone who gets paid to play their sport is a professional athlete) I would never, ever, read the comments (seriously.... don't read the comments) or engage anyone who wanted to criticize me on social media. Who cares what any of those people say? That goes double for parents. I get that would be harder. Can't imagine internet trolls talking about my daughter, but once your kid gets to a certain level I think you just have to turn off comments on your own feeds and try to avoid it as much as possible.

It seems to me the jumbo wing is certainly a priority and more immediate, but I think PG has to be right up there unless we’ve got someone else I’m overlooking who can be effective in that role. Going into a season being one injury away (never mind just needing someone to give ZZ rest or in the event he gets in foul trouble) from having no PG is not a place to be in. We learned our lesson two years ago on that count. Or at least I hope we did.

Maxime Raynaud is another name to monitor evidently. Add him to Lanier and Dunbar and you've got a really strong transfer group.
From 247:
Maxime Raynaud was a second-team All-Pac-12 selection as a junior at Stanford and also the recipient of the conference’s Most Improved Player award after averaging 15.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2 assists, 0.8 blocks, and 0.7 steals while shooting 57% from the floor, 36% from three, and 78% from the free-throw line.

Aidoo really pissed me off in the tournament. I think he’s so weak, but I am afraid of having too much turnover. I think we could find another Awaka in the portal. 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 fouls are not very rare. I’m not sure how high his ceiling is.
OK. 5/5 may not be uncommon. But how uncommon is it to find a guy that can put up 5 pts and 4 rebounds in less than 15 mpg as an underclassman? And what do players that do that look like as upperclassmen? I did not know, but I haven't seen happen it very often. So I looked:
For Tennessee, the list is Ian Lockhart.
For other SEC teams, I found seven players that did that as a freshmen or sophomore. One I never heard of (Alonzo Lane), but the other six all ended up being all-conference players. Some of those did it as freshmen and then played more as sophs (like Antoine Walker), however, so those may not be the best comps.
Therefore, I looked at all major-conference players as sophomores, going back to the 80s. I found ten with <15 mpg, >5 ppg, >4 rpg. Three transferred out, but each became an all-conference player at a smaller school.
Here are the seven that stayed: - David MCormack, Kansas
- Tyrique Jones, Xavier
- Thomas Robinson, Kansas
- Jamaal Magloire, TWWNBN
- Greg Ostertag, Kansas
- Ian Lockhart, Tennessee
- Ben Coleman, Maryland
Guys, Ian Lockhart may be the worst on that list. Awaka may not hit that level, but we should not pretend that his per-minute production was a normal thing or that we can tell what his ceiling might be. This is a big loss. It may be an inevitable one in this day and age, but it's still a big loss.
You’re such a nerd.

It isn’t just Dubar. He is the first though.
In a perfect world, I'd like to pair Dubar with Dailey, a 3 that can play 4 with a 4 that's athletic enough to guard 3s. Initially, there were some comments from Stillwater that seemed to think Tennessee might have some traction with Dailey, but I haven' heard anything to that effect in several days. They seem to think he's going to UCLA.

On this board, I'll consider that a compliment.

In keeping with Awaka's highbrow intellectual interests, Mashack's mother's hairdresser's cousin told me that Awaka doesn't engage in social media. She says he only lurks on the Masterpiece Theater of the Internet, and he entered the portal because, quote, "Smyrna hurt his feelings."
