So GVT posted this on 247 before we relocated here, and I thought in an effort to continue the discussion here (and in an effort to get my post count way up), I’ll cut and paste the responses. Here’s the original post:
GVT11 said: I like the young talent, but I have a concern that Barnes can get new guys coached up fast enough for o be effective as a unit in their first season with him. He seems to be more comfortable having kids at least two years before they click. My be one reason he went away from one and dones in favor of 3-4 year guys. Hope they have enough time together this summer to get a head start.

Pdlglm replied:
idk. be interested to see how the new kids play defense. that's the key isn't it, to staying in Barnes good graces and on the floor. I think this team will be good, but i don't know if we will be top 15 kind of good

Smyrnavol added:
I could see us not looking so great in non-conference play, but forming into something strong by the meat of SEC play. I think it's going to take a bit to really gel.

AFVol (that’s me!) agreed:
I have similar thoughts. Lots of young talent, combined with a bit of good experience, I could see us struggle somewhat early, then building steam late. Personality/playtime time management with Barnes is going to be interesting to watch for sure.
I do think on one hand, with Covid potentially limiting contact more than normal, having such dependence on freshmen might hurt (and Vescovi who isn't able to be here yet). On the other hand, Barnes and his staff seem to place more emphasis than others on hard working kids who have the drive to get better, even on their own. Not sure if either of these is more important than the other.
I'll also add that despite all the frosh newcomers, I think I'm most excited to see what Victor Bailey brings to the table.
