Post Baha Mar, the Vols check in at #5 in the KP (#10 Offense, #2 defense). They have a WP% over 50% in every remaining game except one - At Auburn in late January.
They are 7th in the country in eFG% - higher than any Vols squad in KP history (back to the last Bald Kevin #1 team) - the 2019 Vols finished 18th, Pearl's first squad was 25th. Long season ahead, but the shooting has been something else. And while the 18th ranked 3pt shooting sells tickets, the 16th ranked 2pt% will win you games. Plus the white hot 3pt% is mostly Chaz - nobody else is over 40%. Inside the arc, though, two guys are over 70% with over 20 attempts (Igor and Cade) - and even Gainry is at 60%.
vols are 9th in OR%.
Assist %, while still good is not elite - as we seem to have multiple guys who can sort of create their own shot. Not Knecht level shot creators but guys who can put their head down and get a look if they need one.
Moved up to #3 on Torvik's site.
Evan Miya has the Vols with 7 kill shots to only 2 given up.
KP has the SEC as the best conference in basketball with no SEC squad ranked lower than #75 (SC).

Igor needs more shots and Gainey needs to keep putting his head down and getting downhill.

Igor needs more shots and Gainey needs to keep putting his head down and getting downhill. Gainey has shown he can drive, but I think he may be getting better at finishing in traffic. If he can hit pull-up midrange jumpers off the drive, he’s much more dangerous for us.

I’ll admit I’m surprised at that OR number.

I’ll admit I’m surprised at that OR number. cade phillips...and, unfortunately, estrella slight push back here: it’s not 2 guys. It’s pretty wide spread. Phillips and Estrella are the best. But Okpara and Milicic are also decent. And gainey/lanier/dubar are pretty good for guards. Best last year was Tobe, and nobody on the current squad is as good at OR as he was. But the team as a whole is better because more guys are involved.

Barnes’ guards have traditionally always been good rebounders but I feel like typically it’s more on the defensive side. Our guards have looked great this year crashing the offensive glass though. Obviously tough to tell in only 15 mins or whatever action he’s played, but I think Dubar is (hopefully) going to give us a lot here. I’m really happy he’s getting back on the floor.

I think Dubar can spell the Estrella help. But yeah. Tough.
