we were alot more athletic than Virginia, it really showed on the video clips I watched for the preview - and the game showed the difference. Baylor was plenty athletic. Agreed. And Lanier didn’t go 7-8 from three because of strength or athleticism. Carr and Mashack are athletic but also have basketball skill. ZZ, Gainey, Milicic… I think Macy might not have meant it as a slight, but I think he’s off.

Kyle Macy is one of the first Kentucky players whose name I knew. I was in middle school (6 grade) and living in Jamestown KY when the Wildcats won the 1978 NCAA tournament. The seniors on that team (seems like there were 3 of them with Macy being one and Jack Givins another) went around the state playing in exhibition games at various high-schools to let the fans celebrate with them. I was a TN fan of course but went with my friends who were all KY fans to watch them. Ended up getting a free poster after the game which all three seniors signed. I kept it for awhile but lost it at some point. I never liked Macy but thought Givins was really good and he had an incredible game in the championship game against Duke (41 pts). I recall Goose Givins well.

I would have guessed they had more seniors than that. I think Rick Robey, Mike Phillips, and James Lee were all on that team. And I thought all of them were seniors. Then again, I could be wrong.

You could very be right about that, but there were only 3 of them that day and i don't remember who the third one was.

I remember the SI cover with Givens’ picture after the Wildcats beat Duke in the final.
