I didn’t see it, but the stats box show we turned them over 22 times. But when the Blue Raiders weren’t turning it over, they were shooting it very well against us.
The Lady Vols shot well over half their attempts from three, hitting 37+ percent.

Most of the holdovers are relatively slow-footed, the same ones that got blown by last year. The newcomers are quicker, but it seems clear the help defense concepts are still a work in progress. The LVs only used the trapping full-court press in the 3rd quarter, but that gave them the lead they needed to hold on for the win. They didn't use the press that much in the 4th quarter, probably because of foul trouble. Even with occasional hiccups, the LVs are a LOT of fun to watch. They show no hesitation in putting up shots, and thanks to their frequent substituting, the energy level stays high the whole game. They won't win 'em all, but they seem likely to fight everybody.

I agree with your assessment. The Lady Vols are a blast to watch! I will add that I think Talaysia Cooper will be an all American, maybe as soon as next year.

If she keeps going at this rate, she might make 3d-team All-American this year. She is one of the most exciting LV players I have seen in several years.

Is this girl a freshman?

Might have to check out a game. Is this girl a freshman? Redshirt sophomore. We’ll have some struggles this season, as the roster needs some more speed and we won’t be able to keep subbing quite so freely against the better teams on the schedule, especially at crunch time. But I think Caldwell has this program heading in the right direction rapidly, and she’s knocking it out of the park in recruiting so far, especially given the short time in the position.

Can't argue with any of this, except that the idea that they won't be able to substitute as freely against the better teams might not be quite as valid with their current system as it would be with more conventional systems. If nobody plays more than a few minutes at a time, most opponents won't be able to identify weak defenders in time to run more than a couple of plays against them. If a more experienced team manages to slow them down on offense and keep them from shooting a high percentage from the arc, superior talent and experience might tell against them. On the other hand, the opponents will still have trouble handling the ball and defending against runouts, almost no matter who the LVs have on the court. I think they will shock some "superior" opponents this year.

I think we’ll sub freely and in groups early in games against good teams, but as the game progresses we won’t likely be able to keep it up. We’ll need to find our primary rotation and stick to it at crunch time against the more talented teams. JMO
