Is back.
Was he trying to decide if he wants to transfer? Does he have any of those left?

He is listed on the UT basketball website as a 5th year senior. Therefore it would seem that he is locked into ending his career in Knoxville. He would not have the option of redshirting this year followed by a transfer.

He would not have the option of redshirting this year followed by a transfer. Yeah. I think he was at Iowa State, and played enough that it wasn’t a redshirt. Then he played three seasons at Hofstra. So I think this is his last hurrah, other than pursuing a pro career somewhere.

I think he was probably depressed after coming here and realizing it might have been a mistake for his last season.

Why couldn't he redshirt until he plays in a game? 2021 still doesn't count, right?

I think he was probably depressed after coming here and realizing it might have been a mistake for his last season. Well, given that many seemed to think he was likely the one transfer we were bringing in who was least likely to start, he may not be wrong if that is his thinking. But hopefully he realizes he can contribute here and he does well enough that he has a shot at pro ball somewhere. Unless he is a guy that blows up at this level, I don't think he's looking at the NBA.

Why couldn't he redshirt until he plays in a game? 2021 still doesn't count, right? Unless I'm mistaken, he played a year at Iowa State, three years at Hofstra, and none of them were redshirt seasons. So I think this year is his extra year, since he would have already used up his four years of eligibility. Can you redshirt a years just so you can still use your Covid year? I don't think he can.

He has played in games all four of his seasons, three at Hofstra and one at Iowa State. So he does not have a traditional redshirt to make use of (four years of eligibility in a five year time frame). He transferred to UT as a fifth year senior in order to take advantage of a Covid year of eligibility. In football, a player can appear in four games and retain his redshirt season but basketball has no such allowance. If you play in a single game, you lose the right to redshirt the season in which you appeared in a game. Dstone played in the exhibition against Indiana but has not playeded in the two regular season games, therefore a redshirt remains on the table if NCAA rules allow taking a redshirt season prior to taking a Covid fifth year of eligibility. I have not been able to find a coherent answer to that scenario. However, the question will become moot if he takes the floor against Montana tonight or any game that follows.
