That PG for GW was sooo good. He had ZZ on skates at times. Under control. Shot well. He would be a perfect ZZ replacement if that is his normal level of play. I saw Barnes talked him up in the post-game. I'd like to think he has the some thoughts about keeping an eye on him. Even the GW coach worried about it in his post-game.
Barnes also said Okpara is playing through a painful hip pointer. So keep that in mind when evaluating his play.

Rough night for the SEC. Both Texas schools lost to unranked teams. Missouri lost to Memphis. SC lost at home to North Florida. UGA barely beat TN tech. Bama looked great. Unfortunately so did the blue team. The league may not be a power this season. And if two teams are going to be really good, I really hate if it’s Bama and Auburn.

I’m less worried about evaluating Felix’s play than I am that he ends up hampered by this all season.

I'll take 15/17 at the rim, but that will obviously drop against better opponents. Still, we shot relatively well. Maybe we don't want 15 non-rim, non-three attempts, but that is a part of the game where looks can be available if we have guys who can knock them down.

OK, is it time to send out a search party for AV Vol? Context? What's going on?
Sorry. Didn't post in the summer because I didn't want to distract from your baseball vibes, then got out of the habit. Since basketball picked back up for reals, I've just been slammed with work. I may have little break next week. If so, I'll try to go through a bunch of threads and make some long, boring responses to help with your insomnia.
Random snippets for now: - Not many surprises, because so much was up in the air to begin with.
- Okpara - We knew he had no offensive game outside of three feet but was an uber-athletic shot blocker. Open questions were how long it would take for Barnes to get him disciplined on defense and learn him some offensive moves. Still open questions. Showed a few things on offense against Indiana, but looked about like me on offense against GW. On defense, he's still in OSU chase-everything mode, and is currently a BIG dropoff from Aidoo in the hedge-and-recover schemes the Vols use. He'll get to that level, but the question is how long it will take . . . 5 games? 10? 20? next year?
- Milicic - I like him so far. Everyone seems worried he hasn't shown the outside game yet, but that might be by design. I've said before that Barnes builds his big men the same way--inside out--since at least Chris Mihim, maybe longer. Perfect one or two things, then move on to the next . . . a couple of post moves, getting to your spots, crashing the boards. Then you expand outward . . . Schofield, Alexander, Williams, Fulk, Xanax, Aidoo, and even BHH and Awaka before they left. I don't know why Mililic would be any different. Well, he'll have to be a little different because he's only got one year here. But I still suspect the sequence will be the same, and that might mean having Milicic focus on his inside game early in the season, particularly against pancakes.

One more: My biggest worry at this point is not that the Vols will be playing mudball, but whether they can play mudball if they need to. Scovi and JJJ don't live here any more.

We've become so accustomed to top notch defense that we (at least me) sort of just assume it's a given and focus our worries on offense. And I like the "chase everything" vs. "hedge and recover" point above as well.
