It’s hard for me to ignore the fact that the article reads like it was translated from Cantonese, or written by a program that just takes the audio recording of the coach and puts it on paper verbatim, without allowing for the words repeated while the speaker is trying to marshall his thoughts mid-stream, etc.

This part I did find funny though, from CRB:
“They’re gonna play really fast. They’re well coached, extremely well coached. They got a new coach there…”

I see what you mean. I couldn't get through the first paragraph. The transcriptions of interviews on 24/7 are just as bad; there seldom seems to be any effort at editing the pieces. I know Barnes tends to ramble at times, but most of these pieces make him sound downright illiterate. This has gone on for long enough now that we have to consider the numerous errors in these pieces as features rather than bugs. In any case, they do not make anybody involved look good.

I’m sure it has to be a challenge to write a story while heavily quoting Barnes, because to say he rambles and half-finishes thoughts before switching tracks is an understatement. It’s the same way with Vitello. Heupel isn’t as bad, but he mostly speaks in sentence fragments, like he’s reading his shorthand notes from a class to save time.

You described Heupel's speaking style perfectly! I wouldn't call him the strong, silent type, but he does seem to measure out his words as if they were money out of his pocket. I do still try to listen to Barnes' interviews, but seldom have any hope I will actually get any info out of them. I haven't heard Vitello interviewed as much as either of the other two, but at least he is young enough that he has time to improve. Same with Heupel. Barnes, though, may just be a lost cause as an interview subject.

I'd say maybe 5% of coaches are interesting to listen to or ever say anything notable to media.

I'd say maybe 5% of coaches are interesting to listen to or ever say anything notable to media. I agree, but at least part of that is because the media doesn't ever ask anything notable. Like, Chaz looked better last night. The question from somebody was something like, is this more what you expected from Chaz? I mean, yeah. What is Barnes supposed to say to that? Yeah.
