Your defending national champion Diamond Vols will play Western Kentucky tonight. We'll face Troy in Jackson, TN this weekend as well. But tonight, we'll roll with the following lineup:
1. Jay Abernathy, DH - this kid is a true freshman with good hitting, fielding and flashing serious speed - McKee thinks it will be tough for the coach to keep him out of the starting lineup - but we'll see how he looks against major college competition soon enough, though he has done well in scrimmages against his teammates, who I may have forgotten to mention are the DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPS
2. Hunter Ensley, CF - thrilled to have him back one more season
3. Andrew Fischer, 3B - big time transfer from Ole Miss, but is... not known for his fielding prowess
4. Dean Curley, MI - Dean is a real talent, but will have some pretty tough competition at SS; I think he sticks on the field though
5. Cannon Peebles, DH- expected to be our main catcher
6. Gavin Kilen, MI - I imagine he will start at 2B, and may get some innings at SS tonight
7. Alex Perry, 1B - not sure the Vols have a lot of great D talent at 1B, but Perry is the likely starter unless he just doesn't hit
8. Reese Chapman, RF - flashed some potential last season
9. Colby Backus, LF - see comment about Chapman, above; Backus needs to take the next step and be more consistent
LHP Liam Doyle is starting on the mound - right now, Doyle is the only guy who seems to have nailed a spot in the starting weekend rotation
You may notice that we list two DH's and no catcher. So either we will be starting Peebles at C, or I confidently predict a LOT of passed balls tonight.
