Just saw this. Crazy and concerning. I know my UVA buddies are crushed right now. I wonder if Jason Wiliford, another good guy and one of my childhood heroes, will get the nod.

Early reports indicate this is not scandal or health related. If it is related to the current NIL, transfer situation in college basketball then I appreciate him at least doing it now before the season starts and the November signing period . Recruits can wait till the spring signing period and present players can see how things go.
Is there a guy on staff that could possibly be the long term answer ? I don’t know anything about his staff.

Given the bizarre (IMO) timing of Bennett stepping down, I think an interim is the only way to go. Continuity for the team and staff, time for the school to do a true search. I could see them snatching up a guy like Kim English if he had just a bit more time as a head coach under his belt. But I think it’s too soon for him. |

If he were maybe a bit more old school, he might have made this decision either after last season, or waited until after this season, given the timing. But maybe he was communicating to his AD already. It seems likely that the team was not aware until now though. I’d think news would have leaked. |

But maybe he’ll find a way to stay involved in the coaching part of the game without leading a college program. |

If your collective is good like Tennessee’s recruiting is actually easier hence why Barnes has embraced the new era |

To be sure, I was not suggesting--or God forbid, expecting--that Barnes might "do a Bennett" and quit before his contract runs out. For that matter, he seems to be a good deal more mentally flexible than I used to think he was, while Bennett has always seemed a bit rigid in his personality and views. On further thought, I can see why Bennett did what he did and why Barnes will not likely do the same.
