Aside from Okpara all these transfers are making a big step up in competition, it’s not going to pan out for all of them , it’s just the way it works Had Santi been even a shell of his All SEC self last year Gainey would’ve been another example of a good 3 pt shooter transfer to struggle to find his shot here ……which in reality that’s what he really was last year but he had to still play a lot out of necessity I know I shouldn't do this but... imagine last year's team with a "normal" Santi. Having that threat and production in addition to Knecht would have almost certainly gotten us into the FF. So of course, he goes into some kind of shell shock version of himself... Such a shell shocked version that I thought him having the flu in the tournament might actually improve his performance...

He had a fluke freshman year where he was hot, but he didn’t shoot it well the year before he came here, either.

Except for last year pretty much. You’ll laugh but Dilione being hurt killed our backup pg option.

Except for last year pretty much. You’ll laugh but Dilione being hurt killed our backup pg option. Not at all. That little hiccup put Freddie so far behind that he virtually disappeared as a legitimate backup at PG. I think it particularly delayed his progress at defense. Then he was getting so few minutes that he didn't actually know what he was supposed to be doing when he was out there. Barnes lost confidence in him, he lost confidence in himself, and his potential role at UT just gurgled down the drain. I hope things work out for him at Penn State, but on the face of it, that was a strange choice.

On scenery grounds alone, going from Knoxville to Pennsylvania would be a shock.

State College is pretty central in the state as I recall. Now western Pennsylvania has shades of north Georgia, east Tennessee, etc.

Trying to bury it in this thread as to not start another one
If we get to 13 Scholly players then I see 3 redshirts in in my crystal ball.
We burned 2 redshirts last year because Our Bigs couldn't play or stay in the game.
Agree with the earlier assessment of Dilione. He's the one I hated to lose and he woulda been a difference make without the injury

I wonder if everyone would have been better off with him playing from the get go. Which brings up another question, how many of the kids we've red shirted have turned into players. I've never been a fan of red shirting and see it as (a) something you do with kids who are never gonna play or (b) parking a kid who can play, but it winds up backfiring on everyone - like the Dilione deal. And, now in the portal era if you red-shirt a kid and he actually gets better, you're liable to lose him without getting any benefit.

yes. why any college age D1 athlete would choose to play in Pennsylvania or Michigan or Ohio versus Tennessee or Georgia or Mississippi (or lets be honest, Arizona State or USC) is a mystery I will never understand.
