Thursday: Chris Stamos (lefty) Friday: Drew Beam (righty) Saturday: TBD
Somehow we are #3 in the country and 2nd in the East with a starting rotation that has only one guy who was projected to be a starter when the season began. And we are pitching game three's mostly with several bullpen guys throwing an inning or two each. It's a great job, but we're going to hit a point where that will bite us in the postseason. There's nothing we can do about it but to keep doing what we're doing and hope the offense continues to produce big. But we will also see some dominant pitchers in the postseason.

One of the big national talking points during the 2022 year was the power numbers that the team was putting up and there was even some offhand discussion about the possibility that they could approach the record of 188 HR's put up by LSU in 1997. They ended up falling short of that mark by the time the season was in the books, but they are actually on a higher HR pace this season that even that one and I personally haven't really heard much about it (maybe I just haven't heard it). They are currently number one in the country in that statistic and are actually on a HR/game pace higher than that Tiger team. Still 20+ games to play so hard to say if they can keep this up, but scoring runs is something that this team is good at and if they can maintain it, then it will when a lot of games and hopefully overcome some of their pitching deficiencies. Below is their HR numbers since TV has been in Knoxville. Their power numbers have dramatically improved since he arrived. Year | Games played | Home runs | HR/game | 2018 | 56 | 42 | 0.75 | 2019 | 61 | 53 | 0.87 | 2021 | 68 | 98 | 1.44 | 2022 | 66 | 158 | 2.39 | 2023 | 66 | 126 | 1.91 | 2024 | 41 | 115 | 2.80 |

It was noted earlier in the season that UT was ahead of the pace we set a couple of seasons ago, but I haven’t heard any talk about the LSU season. And I’ve pointed out earlier in the season that we were on a ridiculous grand slam pace. We broke our former single season record of 8 s couple of weeks ago, before the midpoint of the SEC schedule. We’re at 10 now I believe, though it might be 11 - there was one last weekend that I missed because of my son’s wedding, and I can’t recall if that was #10 or 11.

The national record for grand salamis is 14 by the way. Think it was Louisville?

Arizona State hit 14 in 2003. I'm a numbers guy... Well, I didn’t even know the record was 14. I had to google to find the answer. And frankly what I saw wasn’t directly from the NCAA, so it might be wrong.
