I’m surprised we’re going with a roll of the dice type.

I'm excited about this hire actually Me too... She's not hard on the eyes. Yes, I know I'm a pig. But seriously, this hire is a dice roll - high upside but also a significant risk. She has one year of D1 HC experience, at Marshall. She has won wherever she has been, but going from Marshall to the SEC is major change and she'll be recruiting against some top coaches in a tough conference. I don't think Harper was likely to restore the program to FF status, but she finished 3rd or 4th in the SEC each of her five years, and made the NCAAT each year. That may not sound like a major achievement for a program that has NEVER missed the NCAAT, but it's an odd look to fire a coach with that track record and then replace her with someone who has so little D1 experience. If it doesn't work out, it looks like a pretty dumb move. If it DOES work out, White looks like a genius. I'll give him credit for making that hire in the knowledge that it's a risk (not that I think that anything that happens to the women's basketball program is going to hurt him as long as our major men's sports are successful). He must feel solid about the hire, because there are certainly many safer hires that would look more acceptable for his decision-making if they didn't work out. If this one doesn't work out, he looks like he was clueless.

She related to Toy Caldwell? Hope she coaches as good as that song always sounds in concert. If so, she'll be around for a long long time.
