Beam pitched a great game, giving up only three hits (two of them in the 7th, when AU scored their only runs). His season ERA is around 2.5ish. And the Vols hit six homers, including two apiece from Dreiling and Bargo, a solo shot from Burke that puts him in first place among UT player in career homer, and a grand slam from Moore, who is only one or two homers behind Burke. I belive that is the Vols 7th or 8th grand slam of the season - it's crazy.
But I want the series win tomorrow - we trail Auburn so badly in the head to head series that it's embarrassing, even though we trail a bunch of SEC teams because we have been pretty weak historically as a baseball program in the SEC.
Edit: I just confirmed it was UT's 8th grand slam of the season, and my mind wasn't deceiving me - that is a new UT single season Slam record, and we have more than half of our SEC games remaining plus a slew of midweek games. My guess is we see the slam pace slow down significantly and we don't add many more. But the pace we've been on is insane.

The Vols have hit SIX home runs so far thru 7 innings:
1 each from Moore and Burke 2 each from Dreiling and Bargo
Moore's was a grand slam, and I believe that is UT's 7th Slam of the season. I don't know what the UT or NCAA record for season slams is, but we're at 7 with four games (not counting the remainder of this one) to go before we reach the midpoint of SEC play. I feel like we're hitting them at an unusually high clip.

Moore just hit a two out, two run double in the 7th to make it 12-0 Vols. He has six RBI's for the game.

Through 6.1 innings, Beam has coasted. With one out he just gave up a double, only the 2nd hit he has allowed today. He's only at 81 pitches or so. He has brought his ERA down to 3.5ish.
I know we'd like to keep as many pen arms fresh for tomorrow as we can, but Beam just gave up a single as well, and we committed an error by Dreiling that has runners on 2nd and 3rd. Last year and the year before, once Beam starts losing it, it usually happens fairly quickly. I think he's tiring and we need to go ahead and go to the pen.
Edit: We left him in. He got the 2nd out though it was either a dropped third strike or a tipped ball that was right around the plate. Stark threw the batter out at 1B and gave up a run. Then a wild pitch scored another run. It's 12-2, but Beam is tired and it's time to take him out. Beam got the last out via flyout.
I feel certain we'll see a new pitcher in the 8th.

Dreiling, Tears and Bargo will lead off the 8th for UT.
Edit: Duh, never mind. I forgot that ends the game by run rule.
The Vols even the series and will go for a series win tomorrow with a pretty fresh bullpen thanks to a great outing from Beam.
