Can hardly play in his last game, and was not himself all year. What a shame. Shades of Bowden, Lamonte.
One of my all time favorites for sure

It’s really a shame that 3 he took today didn’t hug the rim and fall, it was just a microcosm of his year

Agreed. To run it back only to get sick the final two games. Lost his grandmother. What a roller coaster of a year for that young man. Hoping that he has a very bright future ahead of him.

Santi went from a flashy gunslinging scorer to Stephen Pearl who could only be a pest
Sorry but Barnes’ system neutered that guy

Whatever happened to him was internal and something he did not manage well. You're right, he ended up at Steven Pearl walk-on level on offense. Never seen a nose dive like that.

A very selfless team, even if almost to a fault sometimes. But you can tell how close they are. JJJ looked devastated that the ride was over.

I feel bad because he never got to settle into his role. He is an incredible basketball player. But that’s life. Sometimes Murphys Law goes into play. He never quit. As meteoric as Knecht’s rise was, NONE of this would exist without Vescovi. He was supposed to learn from Lamonte Turner. He ended up replacing him the day he set foot on campus. I will never forget when they asked Victor Bailey about Santi and he was like Santi can do what ever he wants and that he was the toughest guy to guard on the team. But make no mistake about it, the Vols aren’t this accomplished without him this season or the last half a decade.

But make no mistake about it, the Vols aren’t this accomplished without him this season or the last half a decade. Santi was a very good shooting guard and he'll get the opportunity to continue his career somewhere. Turner's shoulder fell apart which was the biggest issue for him. His performance his senior season was a pretty big dropoff (not scoring wise, but in terms of his shooting %). But Santi stepped in and, aside from some early turnover issues, played more like an upper classman than a freshman. He was a key part of the past five years, as were some others without whom we would not have had the success we had. This season? This season was as successful as it was mostly due to Knecht IMO, though he still obviously needed help from his teammates (and when that didn't happen, we could look pretty bad). Santi secured his place among UT hoops stars with his defense (steals, especially), incredible stamina and three point prowess until this season. I hate that his final season went the way it did, but it won't be my lasting memory of him.

Story of his season. To be honest, I always thought his shot was relatively flat... This year, though... I think what was said earlier about why he came back, and then DK happening and him taking a back seat is probably true... and his grandmother on top of that, and who knows what else... And then he started slow and could never get his edge and confidence back. Yeah, he was wide open, but he looked like he knew it wasn't going in when he took it, even before. It really was a microcosm of the whole year, just totally mental. The yips, in golf parlance...
