Upon hearing that Santi was sick: āSet up for a Jordan flu gameā - said no Vol fan ever 1

Nope we are not better without Santi. Let me get that out of the way.
The fact that we didnāt experiment with his role earlier in the year and give Mashack some more burn does leave some questions. That kind of shooter (pre this year) coming off the bench after Mashack has suffocated your for 5-7 minutes and it opening up Knecht has to be a nightmare to prepare for. That has to be utilized.

We are not better without Santi. The way he gets through off-ball screens is a thing of beauty. If Santi had been available last night but just not started, imo we never trail. We go into halftime with a lead of 6-8 and then the run takes it to almost 30 and creighton doesnāt have an answer.
Santi has been worth a LOT more than his shot this year.
But mashack has earned another start imo. If Santi is available tomorrow he should be a super sub.

I think you can make a compelling argument that Mashak is better than Santi. You can't convince me that Carr or Dilione is better, however. They got a fair amount of his minutes last night.

Carr and Dilione gave great minutes! Proud of them. Yeah, I think Dilione got lost on D once which led to a wide open 3, but other than that I thought he gave great minutes. Carrās 3 from the corner was massive as it looked like Creighton had thoughts of creating distance before the half.

It truly hurts my heart to say this, but we're better without Santi... At this point, that may well be true. It might depend on the matchup to some degree, but I don't think his absence has anything close to the impact it would have had in any other season of his career.

I'd have to look, but I though Dilione and Carr got pretty limited minutes? But I agree that they aren't a net good for us over a game as replacements for Santi. I do think Mashack is even if his defensive assignment might not be exactly the same as Santi's.

I donāt think weāre better with him off of the team, but I definitely think weāre better with his and Mashackās roles flipped. Iāve been begging for it all year. JM is better defensively and more of an offensive threat with his athleticism. With Santi being mentally cooked, he needs to he a role player, not a starter. The torch should have been passed midway through the season.

I agree but if we had made the move mid season everyone would have thoroughly scouted that team dynamic out, now they gotta do it on the run in real short order. Iām sure we didnāt plan it that way but it may be a small advantage to exploit

Carr and Dilione gave great minutes! Proud of them. Looked lost defensively to me. They were lost on D but hustled and played great on O. On a huge stage and with little to no expectation to ever see meaningful minutes. I saw Carr interviewed after the game and he was honest in saying he was shocked when they pointed to him to go in. Iām sure Freddie felt the same. That said, overall they gave great minutes given the expectations, I think.
