Pdl, feel free to delete this post if you’d like, because up front, it’s going to be pretty petty. On that note, anyone else feel free to let him know to delete if you’d like as well, as you won’t hurt my feelings.
For all of us, well at least I think all of us currently on this site, we were at least on 247 (some paid for VIP, some didn’t). As best I can tell, the intent was for 247 to merge all the hoops and football discussion onto one page. We long argued as diehards that the hoops discussion would get lost on there. Well I just checked, and currently there are 50 threads on their first page. 49 of them are football or off topic. There is one post (1!) out of 50 discussing hoops. And it was started by Grant Ramey, as an article. It has 6 responses, 1 of them from Grant himself. The content is basically some 247 writer’s preseason Top 25 predictions. Lame. Super lame.
Pdl links more content in one of his early morning posts here, with our 13 total members, than 247 can generate with its 500 or however many paying members they have over there. It was THE reason I was so furious that they killed the hoops board, and it’s a surprise to none of us that they can’t keep any basketball talk up over there. The one thread they do have going is already 4th from the bottom, so certainly once I wake up tomorrow, there will be no basketball talk in any of the 50 threads on their first page over there. So, so, so dumb to kill the Hoopsville page. A huge thanks again to pdl. Other than the very people reading this message, I don’t think anyone could quite understand how upset I was that we lost our community over there, and in an instant pdl gave me a venue to talk Vol hoops again with fellow diehards. Super grateful pdl, and perusing the 247 main page right now just reaffirms my gratitude.
I’m still a bit bummed that we might have lost a lot of great posters from there, though. Hopefully they’ll log on at some point and check their inbox, or eventually google hoopsville and find their way over here, though I’ve tried out of curiosity and it’s somewhat hard to find. I know a lot of the great old Scout posters are on VolNation, but I can’t seem to send any PMs over there so if any of you can, please reach out to the old handles that you recognize. I would love nothing more than to build this forum back up a bit to the relatively large number of high quality posters that we had, and I know we’ve picked up a few great ones from 247 here already.
