about Caleb Houstan, I have had 5 posters over there ask me about a link to this site. So I've sent it to them.
Hopefully someone can find a way to get in touch with Rainmaker, Hamilton and some other guys from Hoopsville and direct them here.

Boy, we sure are hot and heavy on the recruiting trail. Is this the English effect?

Hopefully someone can find a way to get in touch with Rainmaker, Hamilton and some other guys from Hoopsville and direct them here. That number is up to 7 now. And I departed from nibbling around the edges and finally just came out with what I thought about how the whole thing got handled. It was cathartic, LOL. Ah, wth, here it is (bgosnell was responding to several folks asking for PM's with a link to the site): bgosnell151 said... (original post) A PM party!!! Wooooo. Honestly, I wish they would just come to the checkerboard as this is going to be a fun season and would love to see their take on it. show less (My reply) I think part of the issue is that the Hoopsville board was not a premium board (i.e., no cost) but was retained after 247 took over the old Scout site. Another issue, which was shared by several posters here, is that the hoops posts get quickly lost on the Checkerboard, and they like to discuss hoops year-round. There just isn't much hoops discussion on this board, and when a post is made it gets pushed down the board pretty fast by all the other threads. And finally, another issue is that the Hoopsville board getting dumped caught everyone by surprise - no advance warning. I just happened to notice I coudn't find it one day (I'm on it every day), and there wasn't any notification to the board about it until a couple of hours after I posted on this site to ask what was up, when a staff member pinned and immediately locked a post at the top of the board, which disappeared within about a week. So there are still some guys that have been on Hoopsville for years and years but because they weren't premium members we aren't really sure how to get in touch with them to let them know about the new board. So whether it was a business decision that the site felt they had to make or not, the issue many of us had is that it was handled in an extremely poor manner, and no acknowledgment has ever been made of that to my knowledge. Had that at least been acknowledged, that might have soothed some upset posters who felt like they had just been treated like garbage. But there are some of us who are still members here for the time being, and we'll try to bring info over occasionally from our hoops board. None of the guys seem to mind if info from the board gets shared here. It's not proprietary information. There are just guys there that read a lot of stuff and discuss it. And when there is new info out that hasn't been discussed on this board, we'll try to remember to bring it over here.

Ha...nice Cherokee! Reading that is cathartic for me too. The craziest part in how this entire thing is evolving is that this place is truly transforming into another legitimate Hoopsville. I had some doubts early on that we could generate enough traffic, but I mean I checked the board tonight before making dinner for the kids, and 4 hours later just checked again and there are 10+ new posts....and all on basketball! That's more traffic than sometimes we'd even get on the 247 or old Scout Hoopsville board (especially in the offseason, and we didn't even have COVID/no-sports to deal with then). But the kicker is, this is an entirely separate entity from 247 now. Had all these same posts that I read tonight been on the old 247 "hoopsville" site and all made free to read and encourage discussion & generate traffic like back in the old days, and you'd probably have a handful of us eventually wander over and pay for the checkerboard service. Exactly like what happened to me. But alas, since we're no longer connected, it's highly unlikely for someone to join the checkerboard b/c they visit here...previously that was not the case. I no longer need to be on the checkerboard as I can now engage with all you guys plenty over here. I don't need to pay VIP money for anyone to tell me I'm a big dumbass for thinking Barnes doesn't suck in March...I can get that here for free now!

Oh, that last line had me trying not to wake my wife up as she is sleeping a few feet away, LOL. By the way, it's now over 10 posters on the CB that have asked me for a link to the site via PM. So hopefully we will see some more members soon. I didn't mention the site here by name when I was there, and only casually mentioned that we even had a new site (just to get the point across that I was sharing info FROM here that they did not have on the CB), and I admit I take a little pleasure in the fact that the staff can see post after post in that thread of people asking me for the link here. I harbor no ill will toward Grant - as you have pointed out before, I think it wasn't really his call and he likely doesn't care for how it got handled either. But nobody from that site has ever stepped up and just said, "Guys, we haven't handled this well and we're sorry". That might not have changed anything really, but there would be less people with a bad taste in their mouths about their site now.

That might not have changed anything really, but there would be less people with a bad taste in their mouths about their site now. I don't know first-hand anything about how 247 works, but my experience in journalism tells me you're absolutely right about Grant not being involved in any decisions about the fate of the message board. Maybe they gave him a heads up about what they were considering, and maybe they asked him what he thought. But he was probably as surprised as you were about it being as abrupt as it was. I doubt you're going to get much said publicly from the 247 employees about this. They know football pays the bills, and they're all probably a little nervous right now about whether football's even going to happen in the fall. We may all love Hoopsville, but I suspect it was largely an afterthought in their mind, and not worth the trouble of maintaining. I feel like sites like 247 at this moment are like an island with a massive hurricane a few days out from potential impact. They're hoping it'll steer clear, but there are plenty of models that show a direct hit, so they're boarding everything up and stocking up on bottled water to prepare for a Cat 5 strike, which would be the cancelation of football. If that happens, revenue's going to plummet, and lots of people are going to lose their jobs. So Hoopsville, fair or not, is probably just not on their radar. And even if it were, I don't think they'd see it as big enough of a deal to break with the company line on. Circle the wagons and carry on. But I definitely understand the sentiment from this side. You're not wrong.

This is a different thought, but one of the reasons I'm thankful for this new forum site is that we don't have to deal with constant pop-up ads and unexpected screen shifting anymore. That was absolutely killing me. I mean, most of you guys are obviously really shady, shifty characters, but I'm okay with that...
