Vols move from #14 to #8 in the KP with the 20pt road victory. up to #4 defense. We held them to 35% eFG%, truned em over better than 1 of every 5 possessions. Other other end we shot 66% eFG% and got 48% of our own misses. Hard to lose with those two marks. 3 players in double digits. Cade Phillips had 4 offensive boards, honestly get excited when I see him and Estrella check in. Milicic only played 12 minutes. Great game. Hopefully we have enough firepower that we don't go into a hole with one guy being off. OTOH, it is also nice to have a guy who can step up and carry a team when needed. But I think this model is better overall for us IF we can get good enough offense on a consistent basis to match with a great defense.

I still have no idea what to think about this team. Going to try to be more upbeat with lower expectations this season. That game today was never really in doubt, and when it kind of was it seemed like the refs were leading the charge. It felt like a B- game and we stomped them on the road. I’ll take that every time. Defense still works. If Lanier and Zeigler are hitting 3’s I think we’ll win most of those games. But I know Zeigler is very streaky. We’ll see what Lanier looks like over time. I imagine we’ll live and die with his scoring. Yes, ZZ is so unpredictable with his three point shooting. And when he misses, often they are ugly misses. Fortunately, those still only count as one miss.

Even when he's not playing well, he finds ways to contribute and will make very heady plays like this. But mercy, get under control.

At this point, the lead was dwindling further and I was fully expecting the game to become a to-the-wire affair. That was such a huge, timely shot.

Game Report: Yum Center is a good venue. It wasn't sold out but a very big crowd. They were into it right before tip, then only a handful of times after that. They are a beat down fan base and you could tell they were just so ready for a good performance against a ranked team to give them hope going forward, even if they didn't win. All the people we interacted with were very nice - ushers, fans, etc. The only trash talking I heard was their fans at their team for not playing like TN was.
They didn't show any replays so what I saw with my eyes real-time was it. Seemed like there were some questionable fouls for sure. One that pissed me off was Gainey bringing the ball up the court and the gut guarding him had hands all over him, then Gainey got called for pushing him off. All he was doing was trying to get hims hands off of him.
We were so much more ready - I'll say better coached - than they were. We had a plan on O and D, even if it didn't work at times. Louisville seemed to just be winging it and that may have been our D taking them out of their plans. Then I thought Louisville tried to up their D to TN's level but got worn out - weren't used to doing it for 40 minutes like we are.
It sure is fun walking out of the other team's arena with a W, head high. There were not many TN fans there - maybe a few hundred - I assume due to a home football game the same day. But a good time for sure!
