yeah, me too. I mean if Milicic turns out to not just be preseason hype and if Lanier can really knock down shots at this level, and if Okpara and Estrella can be a serviceable replacement for two bigs we lost and if Carr can reach the potential alot of us think is there and if no one gets hurt or forgets how to shoot a basketball... then yeah. I'm fine if Lanier can't take it to the rack well. If he can just knock down threes at a clip like Santi did his sophomore and junior seasons, and defend at least reasonably well, that would be big for us. Milicic - I need to see him do in games what people are seeing in practice. But what little I've seen looks very promising. I think Okpara will be a defensive upgrade, likely a downgrade offensively. But if we put a group on the court that doesn't rely much on feeding the post then the impact of Okpara's presumed limitations to our overall offense could be nil. Estrella - when, and at what %, will he be capable of playing with this foot issue? If he is able to play most of the season at close to 100%, then he and Felix will be more than serviceable replacements for Jonas and Tobe IMO. Is ZZ the only upcoming senior? Not sure what to make about the idea that Lanier can't take the ball to the basket well. IIRC, he had some phenomenal number of dunks for a guard his size, and I'm pretty sure you have to be close to the basket to make those. Even if he can't get as many in the SEC, it still shows that he is willing to take the ball to the basket with authority. |

It has been observed by several that he’s not especially great off the dribble, more of a pure jump shooter. Yes, I’ve never seen anyone dunk a basketball from anywhere other than near the rim, but I can only tell you what has been said/written. So make of it what you will. I haven’t seen much practice video, so I have no first-hand report to provide. But I also know that sometimes people dunk a basketball off of a fast break or when a path is just open. At least I’ve heard rumors of that happening…😀 |
